How far back can you go?
It is possible to trace most families back to the early 1800s of course there are exceptions to the rule. Your ancestors may have moved abroad or changed their surname and these are just two examples of events that bring your research to an end. Research using parish records could take your family tree back to the late 1600s - 1700s. Normally I suggest researching back to the early 1800s first. After that the cost and feasibility of going back further through the parish registers can be more accurately assessed. Most Parish registers are held at local County Records Offices, I can undertake pre 19th Century research in most areas of the Home Counties also Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset.
